92Y NOVEMBER CONCERTS

JEREMY DENK IN RECITAL

Saturday, November 15, 8:00 PM
92Y- Kaufmann Concert Hall

In his only New York recital this season, Jeremy Denk - a 2013 MacArthur Foundation Fellow, Musical America's 2014 Instrumentalist of the Year and newly-appointed Artistic Partner of The Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra - has programmed Haydn's Sonata in C major, followed by a group alternating between selections from Janácek's On an Overgrown Path, Books I & II and Schubert's Moments musicaux, Landler & Ecossaises, and Grazer Galopp. The program concludes with Mozart's Rondo in A minor and Schumann's Carnaval Op. 9. As Mr. Denk describes it: “On the first half a "mixtape" about anxiety, regret, and ambivalence (Janácek/Schubert); on the second half Schumann's Carnaval, bursting with young confidence--no regrets, no second thoughts.”

92Y once again partners with the New York Philharmonic at SubCulture as part of CONTACT!, the New York Philharmonic’s new-music series. Composer John Adams occupies a unique position in the world of American music.  His works, both operatic and symphonic, stand out among contemporary classical compositions for their depth of expression, brilliance of sound, and the profoundly humanist nature of their themes. THE ROMEROS
EXCLUSIVE NEW YORK ENGAGEMENT

For over 50 years, three generations of Romeros have inspired composers to enrich the repertoire of guitar quartet with orchestra. Known as "The Royal Family of the Guitar," The Romeros return to 92Y bringing a program celebrating one of Europe’s most culturally vibrant regions—Andalucia, the southern part of Spain. Especially famous for the flamenco style, its music is an intriguing mix of Western and Arabic traditions. Tonight’s concert spans more than two centuries, from the Classical era to works written by Celedonio Romero, the founder of the ensemble, and his son Pepe, the current leader of the clan, who celebrated his 70th birthday earlier this year.
