CYPRESS STRING QUARTET
92Y CONCERTS AT SUBCULTURE

Tuesday, April 1, 7:30 PM
SubCulture - 45 Bleecker Street (downstairs)

Making its 92Y debut at the underground, intimate venue SubCulture, the Cypress String Quartet** presents the New York premiere of George Tsontakis’ Sixth String Quartet alongside selections from Dvorák’s Cypresses and Schubert’s String Quartet in G major, D. 887. In this exclusive New York performance for the season, the Quartet’s program marks its second premiere of a work by Tsontakis, after having the pleasure of commissioning his fifth string quartet in 2006. To date, the Cypress Quartet has commissioned and premiered over thirty pieces, four of which were chosen for Chamber Music America’s list of “101 Great American Ensemble Works.” Gramophone magazine has praised the Quartet’s discography by writing, “intoxicating and lyrical” playing and “sheer instrumental mastery.” The Quartet’s most recent album includes their namesake work, Dvorák’s Cypresses on the Avie Label.
